Earlier this week John Dewar, the Vice-Chancellor, announced that La Trobe will be scrapping the V-Grade for Semester 2.
This was a vital support for students. Between the unprecedented emotional, academic, and financial stress young people have been under - many are stretched to breaking point already.
Not having a failed subject affect your permanent academic record meant students had one fewer thing to worry about. The V-grade was a small change, but an impactful one.
John Dewar and La Trobe are choosing to act like the pandemic is over, like many students aren't still struggling just to get by.
You just have to look at Sydney right now or speak to the students who lost weeks worth of pay during the recent Victoria lock-down, to see how ridiculous that is.
The LTSU is calling on La Trobe and John Dewar to show some compassion for students and to reinstate the V-Grade for Semester 2.
