Established in the 1960s, around the same time La Trobe University opened its doors, the Student Union was founded by students – and for students.
It has always been student-led and student-run, ensuring that La Trobe students have a powerful, independent voice on campus.
Over the decades, LTSU has played a central role in advocating for:
- Free and accessible education
- Student safety and welfare
- All Genders
- LGBTQIA+ and gender rights
- Fair treatment of student workers
- Accessible campus services
- Climate and social justice
