Oppose La Trobe’s Student Council
La Trobe University introduced a Student Council in July without student consultation, student demand, or student-led design. It’s co-chaired by university staff, lacks democratic legitimacy, and undermines the long-standing role of the La Trobe Student Union (LTSU) as the elected voice of La Trobe students.
Students didn’t ask for a Council. Students don’t want it.
We are alarmed the university has allocated $386,534 of Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) funding to this new council – without asking students. Meanwhile, the university provides just $32,000 per year to support the LTSU’s foodbank, which serves up to 250 students a day. $1.37 per student each year.
