Student Placement Poverty

Not all students get the same opportunities in their student placement at La Trobe. Many students are discriminated against, and there’s a lack of support or empathy for students when issues arise.

Added to this, there is inconsistency in the application of policies and processes, and no uniformity in standards and placement outcomes. Additionally, the preparation students are given for placements is poor. These issues seem to be much higher with international students and non-white students.

____________

La Trobe Student Union is extremely concerned about allegations by a former La Trobe University student about safety on a work placement.

Any La Trobe student who feels unsafe on their work placement should leave the situation immediately and report the incident to the police.

Please seek support from medical and wellbeing professionals.
