Food, health services and transport top the list of what students want SSAF to pay for. Here's what our Our Money, Our Way 2026 report found, and how we'll use it in planning for 2027.
More than 830 La Trobe students have told us how they want their Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) spent — and the message is clear.
Our new Our Money, Our Way 2026 report found students want SSAF focused on the things that make a real difference to their lives:
Food and personal care — 73%
Health services — 61%
Transport and parking — 58%
Events and social activities — 57%
Careers and employment support — 56%
But we also found a big problem: 71% of students said they had never been asked how their SSAF should be spent, while just 8% understood both what SSAF pays for and how spending decisions are made.
That needs to change.
With planning for 2027 underway, La Trobe Student Union will take these results into our discussions with the University and continue pushing for SSAF funding and services that reflect what students are telling us they need.
It’s your money. You should have a say in how it’s spent.
