Legal problems can be confusing — especially when you don't know your rights or what you're supposed to do next.
La Trobe Student Union is launching a free Student Legal Service for all La Trobe students. You'll be able to talk confidentially with a qualified lawyer, understand your options and work out your next move.
It's free, confidential and independent. Nobody at the university will know.

What can I get help with?
Quite a lot. Our Student Legal Service can help with issues such as:
- Renting, tenancy and accommodation
- Problems at work
- Fines and infringements
- Discrimination
- Consumer problems
- Debts
- Car and bike accidents
- Personal safety and family violence
- Sexual harassment and sexual assault
- Education-related legal issues
- Other everyday legal problems
Not sure if your problem is actually a legal problem?
That's okay too. Ask us. If it's something we can't help with directly, we'll help point you towards the right service.
Who can use it?
All La Trobe students on any campus. You don't need to know any legal jargon, and you don't need to have everything figured out before you ask for help. That's what the service is for.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. $0. Free. Because getting legal advice shouldn't depend on whether you can afford a lawyer.

Free Financial Counselling Service
Money stuff getting stressful?
Rent. Bills. Debt. Groceries. Credit cards. Trying to make your money last until payday.
Money worries can pile up quickly — and you don’t have to figure everything out on your own.
La Trobe Student Union is launching a free Financial Counselling Service for La Trobe students. Our financial counsellors can sit down with you, look at what’s going on and help you work out your options. It’s free, independent and confidential.

What can a financial counsellor help with?
More than you might think. They can help with:
- Bills and debts that are getting on top of you
- Dealing with creditors and payment plans
- Rent, utilities and other everyday financial pressures
- Budgeting and getting your finances back under control
- Understanding your consumer rights
- Accessing superannuation in certain circumstances
- Bankruptcy and alternatives to bankruptcy
- Connecting you with legal or other specialist support when you need it
And you don't need to wait until things get really bad. If money is starting to worry you, that's a good enough reason to have a chat.
